The Main Purpose of Security Management

The main and the core purpose of the security management is to take all the precautionary actions and measures against all possible threats (Gill, 2006, 8). Whether it is the property or the people both are susceptible to face threats. In order to avoid these threats and to protect our property and people from these threats there is an immense need that there should be a proper system of for the provision of security. This system of security should be based on principles that are proven and are considered as acceptable to deal with any sort of security risks. Each and every case and situation poses different requirements of security but, there are certain rules and principles that are so basic and these basic principles are implied in every situation (Bulletin No 1, 2011, A-1). Thus it can be stated that purpose of security management is to provide protection against all the possible threats. Property and people are exposed to a number of threats. Some of the most common threats against which the plan of the security management can be devised are as follows (Bulletin No 1, 2011, A-1):

Blackmail and extortion

Kidnap and ransom

It was in 1980's when the phenomenon of the security management came into limelight and began to get attention of people. The sector of the security management emerged from the commercial backwaters and became a major growth sector. In United Kingdom, according to the figures of the year 2005, the security industry is worth 6 billion. This fast paced growth of this industry and broadened horizons that this industry has adopted over the period of time make it arduous to describe the definition and the purpose of the security management. In a broad and in general way the purpose of the security management can be defined as a process that extends protection against loss. The purpose of this system of security management is also to take all safeguard actions that would help in eliminating and minimizing the risk of security (Bulletin No 2, 2011, A-1).

According to the views of Wilson and Slater (1990), while talking about the purpose of the security management iterates that it is the circumstances of recent years such as elevation of the level of professionalism and urge to attain cost effectiveness have created the demand for protecting the assets, personnel, and even the profitability of the organisation against theft, terrorists act, fraud, fire and criminal damage. It is this demand that is fulfilled by the system of security management and therefore this is the main purpose of the security management (Wilson and Slater, 1990, 36).
