The Eye

The eye is an important sensory organ that functions like a camera. To have a perfect vision, every component must function properly (www.eyecaretyler.com, 2010). When performing correctly, a perfect image is formed otherwise, the image is blurred. This can be corrected by wearing spectacles or by surgery. Most of the components of the eye consist of sensory neurons that are used to transmit information from the eye to the brain. If any of these components starts causing problem, the entire eye is affected.

Development of Cataracts in Patients

Many people develop cataracts but they usually do not notice it until they get quite old. The reason is that cataracts only have a minor impact on vision. It occurs when the lens of the eye gets cloudy, making it difficult to see (www.humanillnesses.com, n.a.). One reason for the change in vision is that light entering the eye has to pass through the cloudy lens, resulting in distorted and unclear vision. This does not happen immediately. It is a slow process which gradually increases over time. For some people, the problem can be much worse and they might require surgery to get rid of the cloudy lens.

When people get cataracts, the proteins present in the eye undergo a change which makes the lens cloudy. Other factors such as diabetes, exposure to excessive sunlight, eye injury, poor nutrition, and smoking increase the chances of developing cataract.

It takes time to develop and people usually do not notice it until the condition gets worse. People with cataract feel as if their eyes have a film over them.
