Abstract



Nobody regards sex offenders in any society of the world as respectful persons; in fact people believe that sex offenders are someone who should be given as stern punishments for their acts as possible. Over the years, we as part of society have left them at the mercy of their sufferings with a belief that they cannot be cured and get back to their normal lives and that they must not. However, as human beings they are someone who needs our desperate help and assistance in the form of proper treatments.

Introduction

Rehabilitation accounts for any kind of treatment so designed that it can help the process of illness or any kind of injury to return to as normal state as possible. It helps giving back someone a new, normal and a useful life. A number of criminal activities are results of some kind of mental disorders which also needs to be cured through rehabilitation treatment programs. As part of the criminal justice program in Philadelphia, some part of this year's fiscal budget should be allocated for creating rehabilitation programs of sex offenders in order to give them new hope.

It is purely a possibility that such a program will not gain popularity because for someone who has abused adults or children should not even be allowed to get back into any community. However, to prevent future incidents of sexual assaults such programs are need to be conducted specially at community level.

Discussion

There are a number of factors that influence while designing effective rehabilitation treatments for sex offenders. Training the providers of treatment, available resources, climate within the correctional centers, behavior and several other issues revolve around using an appropriate treatment approach for sex offenders. There are number of rehabilitation treatments in use these days for instance, behavioral, medical and cognitive behavioral. Other treatments include victim awareness, amalgamation, psychotherapy of both offenders and their families and adequate sex education.

Treatment of Psychotherapy

The three approaches that have been in use for the last seventy years for treating sex offenders are psychotherapy, behavioral and psychopharmacological. A psychotherapy method generally includes individual, victims' empathy lectures, family counseling, education courses and cognitive restructuring (Meloy, 2006). With this treatment when psychotherapists are able to form a bond with the under treatment sex offenders and a level of trust is created between them, the offenders later are in a state of disclosing related issues regarding themselves. This way the process of their treatment becomes easier and result oriented. Moreover, the problems discussed between sex offenders and psychotherapists are then studied by the special psychotherapy group which is then followed by counseling of the individual.

Cognitive-Behavioral Treatment

This treatment requires training sex offenders in teaching necessary skills and knowledge in order to control their behaviors. This is a kind of rehabilitation treatment which supports the philosophy that any kind of sexual offence is a choice made only by the offender and over which they have cognitive control.
