Introduction

This document provides a site management plan for the Sidings Lane local nature reserve, Rain ford. This site has been designated a local site after being evaluated under specific guidelines. The site is located in Rain ford, St Helens. The site is 7.68 hectares in size with a National Grid Reference SD 463020. The sidings lane local nature reserve was a former colliery site, which has now being populated by Birch Woodland but also supports grassland and pond habitats. The Site has a low- lying relief. The size has been evaluated to contain a substantial amount of locally rare species and is known to be important for Pipistrelle bats. The site was designated in May 1983 with local site number 5.

The report contains related legislation and policies relating to the site, its nature conservation features, access and interpretation for the site and an appropriate action plan for the site.

Objectives

The key objectives for the site (long term vision) are given below:

(To ensure that Siding Lane Woodland will continue to provide opportunities for informal recreation & education, while protecting the sites conservation & wildlife value.

(To increase wherever possible the sites biodiversity value by employing suitable management techniques.

(To review the management regime on a 5 yr basis to assess the implementation of any management prescriptions.

(To provide and maintain access for all.

(To maintain good links with the local community, site users and neighbours

Site Information

Site Description 

Near the seaside township of Barmouth, the18 acre place lies in the Snowdonia National Park, overlooking the Mawddach Estuary. Located on the boundary of a valley there is a large stream that flows north to south through the easterly boundary of the site.  The place is predominantly Sessile Oak Woodland, with some amenity grassland and supervised garden.

Site designations

There are presently no defensive designations energetic upon this place, but National and European designations are in position on sites in close proximity.

Designated sites in close proximity to Plas Rainford sidiing st helens

 Both SSSI designations and SAC's are encountered in the surrounding area.

Coedydd Derw a Safleoedd Ystlumod Meirion/ Meirionnydd Oakwoods and Bat Sites SAC/SCI/cSAC (EU computer encrypting UK0014789), is right away to the North and West of Plas Caedreon and is the nearest environs designated to natural world conservation. Designations were attributed to its upland sessile oak woodland and alluvial forests.

Cadair Idris SAC/SCI/cSAC (EU code UK0030104), is found to the south of the Mawddach Estuary, with an environs of 3785.05 ha. This place was predominantly designated for its oligotrophic to mesotrophic standing waters, siliceous scree of the montane to blizzard stages and its calcareous and siliceous rocky inclines with chasmophytic vegetation.
