Abstract

In this study we try to explore the concept of “Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD)” in a holistic context. The main focus of the research is on “SAD” and its relation with “cognitive development among human beings”. The research also analyzes many aspects of “SAD” and tries to gauge its effect on “brain processes”. Finally the research describes various factors which are responsible for “the presence or development of SAD” and its impact on human psychology.

Introduction

Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD) has been amongst the most troublesome disorders that could sabotage or even dismantle a person's cognitive ability, leading to irrevocable consequences. In this paper, we shall pertain to describe the problems and issues associated with social anxiety disorder (SAD), which would help us understand the magnitude of the disease, in case the disease has been diagnosed in a subject. In addition to this, a more detailed, in-depth analysis shall be conducted and skim through the available, relevant literature that would provide concrete information, facts and figures that will help in the development of the process.

Defining the phenomenon

Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD) implies a condition, a situation where an individual holds fear, immense concern and dreads the people, who are around him in the society. The subject is prone to experience a risen heartbeat, heightened pulsation and even something as immense as considerable distress, which may become a key obstacle in performing daily proceedings with the person (Goodman, McIntyre & Bukstein, 2009).

Signs and Symptoms

Generally, whenever the subject has been questioned and undertaken, the most common factor that has been identified is that of fear; somehow the other person's influence, words or behavior tend to give out the subject a more demanding, demeaning feeling which, although may not be felt by the person in conversation, but could be perceived by the people with SAD.

To fully understand and comprehend the kind of fear that the subject, making a typology would come in handy in order to understand the actual diagnosed disorder. SAD could either be specific or generalized, depending upon the kind of situations and circumstances that a patient may otherwise may face.

To define both the categories separately, specific disorder regards the presence of fear towards certain situations or instances when the subject may actually feel dreading the current or future interactions that the subject maybe acquainted to.
