The sometimes competing philosophies of market justice and social, or distributive, justice contribute to the complexity of the U.S. healthcare system, healthcare regulations, and policies. In particular, a collision between the two philosophies occurs with respect to healthcare coverage and the nature of the right of U.S. citizens to some or all healthcare services regardless of ability to pay (Heifetz and Marty p 252).
