Introduction

Solid Waste Disposal Act (SWDA) was inducted into the constitution on October 20, 1965.However; it intended to solve the ever existing problem of solid waste. However, this was the need of the hour since it was the issue which raised the level of the concern in the public. However, the nation raised its demand in front of the congress so that this ever existing problem can be laid to rest. However, this law has been amended many times after it became part of the constitution.

Solid Waste Management Act of 1965 provides the necessary framework and institutional mechanisms for the proper treatment of waste and waste disposal. The law sets the appropriate guidelines for waste minimization and introduction of proper treatment measures (i.e. segregation, transport, collection, disposal, recycling procedures) enhanced through the promotion of national research and development programs (Lanier, 2003).

Discussion

Solid waste management program, creating the necessary institutional mechanisms and incentives, declaring certain acts prohibited and providing penalties, appropriating funds therefore, and for other purposes.

Need of the Law

This law was passed due to the reason that it was a long standing demand of the people of the United States. Other than their demand there were other reasons as well which forced the congress to think on the lines of managing the solid waste and ultimately made them pass this law. However, the core reason behind the framing of the law was identified as the advancements or the progress in the field of technology. Since the growth of the technology was far more than the usual growth.
