CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study

The art and practice of controlling and managing the information flow between the public and organization is known as the art of Public Relations. PR is a method of gaining exposure with the audience and making them understand and share topics of mutual interest and gain the trust of public. It is also used to ensure that everyone who is related to the organization like investors, employees, stake holders and public. This is done to create and sustain a specific point of view about the functions of the organization, its public and corporate image, products and services offered, its leadership. It is the process of building and strengthening relationships between the company and its public (Schramm, 1954, pp. 3-26).

In today's world the role of media is strong enough to topple governments and shake the basis of believers and practices of societies, culture and countries. In an economic environment where everything is being sold on the basis of its image and the value people have of that product of service; it is important to develop a sound knowledge of how public relations should work and how the media and communication can be used to build trust and relationship with masses.
