Introduction

States are responsible for looking after the city and the country and should ensure the safety of every citizen. There are very few governments who have been able to fulfil their responsibilities with honesty. There are states that have not even fulfilled their responsibilities and have been involved in corruption. Such states are viewed as necessary evils. There are a number of other reasons as well for viewing them as evils (Rummel, 1997, pp.40).

State and Issues with Authority

States have authorities, but only few of them use them in an appropriate manner. This is one reason why citizens have lost confidence in governments. Corruption is one very common trait of every government which is giving rise to the view of states as necessary evils. States do not pay attention to the common man issues and neglect the poor people, as well. They do not fulfil their main responsibility due to which they are viewed as evils. Taking care of citizens and providing them a safe place to live in should be the top priority of every state. Failing to fulfil will make every citizen hate it (Korschek, 2009, pp.42).

There are specific problems that if are not resolved by the state and they become an issue for governing. One key issue is inflation. If a country is experiencing immense inflation, citizens of that country will be dissatisfied with the government because their salaries are not being adjusted with inflation. Safety and security concern is another example of such issue. If the citizens do not feel safe while going out, they will certainly dislike the government and will demand a secure place to live in. Such problems become big issues for the government as they face difficulties in governing (Henslin, 2005, pp.18).

States and their distinct roles

States play a distinct role in questions related to governing. States do whatever they think is in their favour. They do not consider the consequences that the citizens will have to face; all they think is how their interest can be fulfilled. States should act as ambassadors of the citizens and should do what is good for the country as a whole, but it does what is good for the state only. States should protect the citizens of the country and should be able to provide them with every basic need (Sprading, 1995, pp. 29). Poor people should be looked after so that they do not face any difficulty. It is the responsibility of the state to ensure that no citizen is below the poverty, but the state does not fulfil its responsibility.

There is no doubt that states have to face a lot of problems in fulfilling their responsibilities, but that is what is expected of them. They should be able to deliver what they promised to.
