What is the definition of a correlation and why would a researcher be interested in using this type of analysis?

Correlation measures the degree of relation between two variables and it directs the effect between two variables. Also it helps in identifying the SWOT analysis based on any two variables. In social or market research correlation plays a major role like how one variable changes with the other is changing. The best way to measure correlation is Pearson's Coefficient and for visual understanding we use scatter plot.

2. What is another name for a Positive relationship and a Negative relationship?

Positive relationship means if one variable is increasing the second also increases, where for Negative relationship if once is increasing the second will decrease.

Describe the association between two variables when the relationship is Negative.

For a Negative relationship, first variable increasing the second variable decreases, similarly vice versa.

Is a correlation a good way to determine cause-and-effect? Why or why not?

Correlation does not hold Cause and Effect determination, where it clearly explains the direction of one variable going with the other. So it should not be used as a inferential statistical measure only exploratory technique.

When a large number of cases are examined and a positive relationship is found, what else should one expect to find?

Only we can conclude the relation and how one variable is changing with the second variable, apart from this we cannot precede for any predication.

Conduct a correlational analysis on the following example: (5 points)

Example: A school psychologist is interested in determining if test anxiety is affecting her students' performance on their exams. She randomly selected 103 students from her school and conducted a correlational analysis to try and answer her question. She hypothesized that as anxiety increases, test performance decreases.

Based on this example answer the ...
