Stress in the Workplace



Abstract

This paper will explore Stress in the workplace. According to the United Nations' International Labor Organization (as cited by Maxon, R., 1999) three out of every four American workers describe their work as stressful. Workplace stress costs employers billions of dollars a year in absenteeism, lower productivity, staff turnover, workers' compensation, medical insurance and other stress-related expenses. According to Robert Ostermann, (Fairleigh Dickinson University, 1999) stress can sometime bring about positive benefits such as the stimulation of creativity and productivity in employees. It is known fact that stress motivates us to dig deeper and excel in our endeavors. The natural order of human behavior is to experience a stress-causing event or situation, react to it with increased tension and then return to a normal, relaxed state. Problems occur when the stress gets so overwhelming or constant that this pattern is broken. This paper will deal with causes of workplace stress as well as ways to cope with and hopefully alleviate workplace stress.

A problem that is conceived for which stress arises has to be contradicted with 'time management' in the organization.

Workplace Stress

Its likely causes and the likely answer for eliminating the stress: Stress in an organization is conceived due to diverse constituents and of them are jobs, functions, connection, personal, natural environment, vocation and the general organizational structure, heritage and its practices (Karsten, 2006). Stress in a work place furthermore arises due to other some components, but we will aim at one of the components of stress which is 'conflict'.

In an organization, there are some employees working and it is compelled to occur that between them, a confrontation may originate on an issue. This lays influence exactly on the general profits of the organization. In an organization, the lowest part of confrontation is the accuse game, it determinants some difficulties and the large-scale drawback that the organization bears from it is the buyer dissatisfaction.

Hardly any mutual esteem is conceived through this between employees it does not add any worth to the general allowance of the organization. Loss of impetus is glimpsed in the flow of work, no new concepts are conceived, authority gets a large-scale impediment and to peak it all the self conviction, mutual believe everything is lost (Lehrer 2007).

A gloomy natural environment habitually looms large over the organization due to the occurrence of negativity in the organization. Some of the widespread places, where this kind of confrontation does are inclined to happen in airplanes, wellbeing associations, and bistros and in marriage receptions. The negativity that dampens everyone's self-assurance is the considering that after the working hours that is going out with who for 'dinner' or for that issue to persuade and assure the older employees who is buying them any 'drinks'?? These determinants are natural environment wrath, self despondency and a position of hopelessness (Maravelas, 2005).

Prevalence
