Stress Management Plan

Introduction

Stressor refers to a situation, stimulus and circumstance that is perceived as a threat. More simply put it is something that causes a stress in its response. The stress that has been bothering me no end is a ripple effect stressor (Amato, 2000). It is a life event that has changed the course of life for me. Moreover, it is something that I cannot change. The thing that stresses me is the divorce of my sister. My sister is the most precious relationship in my life. She truly means the world to me. Seeing her distressed has made me sad. She got divorced a year back. She was so in love with her husband that she could not take it, and after a prolonged period of chronic stress, she had to be admitted to the local hospital for treatment. Seeing this condition of my sister has stressed me out.

I think a need a stress management plan as I need to focus on the good in my life. Whining over something that I cannot change is foolishness. I feel happy and blessed that, unlike my poor sister who did not even know she was suffering, I realize that I have a problem to look into. I have become so sensitive over time that I cannot take it if I find a boy cheating on a girl or playing around with her feelings. Moreover, the scene of divorce on the television reminds me of my sister and the trauma she felt. I see a woman crying, and I am reminded of my own sister's suffering. I am reminded about how time was living my sister. She was someone and anyone. She walked slowly, like someone who had come from so far away; she did not expect to arrive (Amato, 2000).

My family has a history of severe depression. My aunt developed suicidal tendencies after her husband cheated on her. Although, everyone in the family tried to bring her back to life, she committed suicide within two months of her divorce. Hence, managing this stressor is important because I too might fall a prey to this stressor.
