CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION

Introduction

The costs and benefits of student study time have been analyzed in terms of their graduate and professional accomplishments and academic achievements as a student. In terms of professional achievement, in general, there is consensus among empirical studies about student study time that is beneficial to people's working as a graduate. By example, it is argued that provides expertise to increase productivity the future. In contrast, the effects of student study time on their academic achievement as there are conflicting arguments student the empirical literature. One of them the work poses a negative impact on student performance since, considering the problem in terms of a zero-sum model, when used of endowment of time in work, rest hours available to perform tasks such as studying which improve their academic performance (Torenbeek, 2010).

In contrast, it is also argued that student work can be positive two main reasons. One explanation stems from the idea of learning by doing or learning by doing, in this regard it is noted that student work can support knowledge transfer related to the topics of study. Moreover, even if work is not related to the curriculum, it is argued that this contributes to discipline and reinforces the sense of responsibility positive effects on academic performance. This suggests that may assign students study time in a more time efficient. The main objective of this paper is to investigate how the study time by students affects their academic performance. Given the conflicting versions of the topic, this research presents sequence empirical questions about the relationship between study time and performance, or academic achievement.

Time Management

Time management refers to a range of skills, tools, and techniques used to manage time when accomplishing specific tasks, projects and goals. This set encompasses a wide scope of activities, and these include planning, allocating, setting goals, delegation, analysis of time spent, monitoring, organizing, scheduling, and prioritizing (Seattle, 2005).

Initially, time management referred to just business or work activities, but eventually the term broadened to include personal activities as well. A time management system is a designed combination of processes, tools, techniques, and methods. Usually time management is a necessity in any project development as it determines the project completion time and scope.

Regarding work, business management experts have realized the stress it places on workers to be so long in the office burdened by deadlines to be met, reports to revise or redo work.
