Abstract

Supplier evaluation and selection is a fundamental of supply chain area which heavily contributes to the overall supply chain performance. Studies have revealed that around 80 % of the parts in an organization in US are usually bought from outside supplier. Many researchers and practitioners have worked on this issue for developing decision models but there are very few comprehensive attempts to design supplier selection metrics. Number of modeling techniques has been implemented for aiding supplier selection process. Over the time, it evolved as multi attribute and multi objective problem with number of conflicting goals like cost against flexibility, parts availability against inventory cost etc. this research will explore to study the depth and understanding of the measurement of supplier relationship management. It will, further, aim to investigate and integrate the concept of the SRM ansd will provide an insight into the best practice model of the supplier relationship managemet.

Chapter 1: Introduction and Background

Many business organizations are reckoning their suppliers to bring down the costs, enhance the quality, and create innovations quicker than their rivals' suppliers. In order to bring it to the end, many specialists have the same opinion that the small firms and large businesses, with their suppliers, should establish the set of connections of vendors who aim at improving, learning, and prospering in synchronization with their parent companies.

Ultimately, the relations between the American producers and their vendors have dropped down to the drastically lowest levels in ages. For instance, in the 1980s, when Honda and Toyota had established the production operations in North ...
