Introduction

Target provide its valued customers with different services, these services is to help the customer to have an enjoyable shopping experience. These services include, home delivery, In-store Butchers, Parcel pick ups, Rug Doctor Carpet Cleaner and flexible payment option. Nowadays supermarkets have become more competitive and product demonstrations are an integral part of shopping experience (Archer and Taylor 2003). It is very important to make shopping enjoyable for every age, careful planning s essential to achieve good results. The target for the demonstration is to achieve greater sale, to communicate with the customers, encourage them to buy the product and create excite within the stores.

In a retail business it is very important to understand its customers. The positioning and display of items creates the concept of impulse buying as well. The store should be luminous and items should be front faced for customer convenience. The height of shelves should be in range. Woolworth places big items at the back of the store example dairy items and meat.The use of signage in the Woolworth supermarkets is to help customers to find the product. The space between the aisles is set by keeping in view the moveability of customers. The customer safety is the most important thing e.g. the wet floor signs.

Wal-Mart is the world largest retailers. Their achievements are credited to their key strength. They have the most efficient logistic network to keep track of their inventory and data, and also between suppliers (Thau 2007). Every time a customer purchases an item, this data will transmit directly to their suppliers regardless of where they are in the world. This data will inform the suppliers to make that product and repeat the cycle all over again. Another key strength that Wal-Mart possesses is their transportation units. Most retailers relied on their suppliers or outside source to deliver their merchandise. Wal-Mart has their own trucks and drivers to pick-up merchandise from suppliers and transport it to their warehouse or Wal-Mart stores. This had helped Wal-Mart to be in control of their transportation system. Wal-Mart strength is also in their locations.

Use of Distribution

The company has two-tiered approach to house brands. The Home brand range is widely used and consists of 900 products. It has the best quality at the budgeted price. Woolworth introduced Select in the year 2005 and now has 800 products under its name. Most brand products are manufactured or grown in Australia. The price and the quality are analysis on regular basis to provide its customer the satisfaction they require (Kuttner 2001).
