Personal Philosophy

The word "personal" has little place in the contemporary philosophical tradition I engage the Anglo-American tradition -- and its use marks me as someone who wishes to challenge this tradition and make it uncomfortable with what it has excluded, that is, an understanding of the importance of people's inner lives as they themselves would attempt to articulate it. It is my feminism that has led to the development of my interests and in the way I state these interests to other philosophers. I began thinking about emotions, for example, through an interest in how easily and effectively the experiences of various individuals or groups can be dismissed by categorizing those individuals or groups.

Classroom Philosophy

Training consisted of written and verbal instructions with specific classroom examples and role-play activities, followed by on-the-job feedback. Feedback on accuracy of implementation was given immediately following each observation throughout the training phase. Training produced improvement in teacher performance and an increase in independent child responses. However, because all components of the intervention were introduced simultaneously in the Mudd and Wolery (1987) studies, it is not possible to determine which features of the intervention were necessary to produce behavior changes. That is, it is unclear whether feedback or instruction alone would be sufficient to improve teacher performance.

Teaching plan

Results of a study have indicated that instruction delivered in the absence of performance feedback can be an effective method of training. In this study, teachers were initially provided with hypothetical examples of how various objectives might be addressed through teaching. Subsequently, teachers were taught to complete worksheets that identified embedded learning opportunities most relevant to the children's Individualized.
