Case study of Angola LNG: Technology Development in Oil and Gas

Introduction

At present the value of the oil and gas industry is difficult to overestimate. The energy is always needed. Oil and gas companies now form the largest industry in the world; the demand for their products is growing every day. But this does not mean that they provide a comfortable existence. In this paper we are going to focus on technological development in oil and gas industry with reference to case of Angola LNG. The Angola LNG is the largest producer Natura Liquefied Gas (LNG) operations in Angola. In 2008, Angola LNG established its global corporate base in Luanda (www.angolalng.com). The Angola LNG is positioned today as one of the private companies in Angola to invest more in the development of the social sector.

Rationale

The purpose of this paper is to investigate technological development in oil and gas industry with reference to case of Angola LNG. The base of writing this paper is to identify motivation to develop new technology for the for oil and gas industry and to examine current and historical trends in oil and gas technological development, so that predictions for future can be made for effective usage.

Literature Review

Gas and oil technologies are usually predestined for hard to reach and hostile environments like pressure and high temperature encountered at the bottom of a well and offshore waters. It is very important to conduct full scale rest before accepting a technology therefore it technological commercialization in gas and oil industry is considered as a time consuming and costly process. Well for oil and gas markets; the technological sources predestined have changed. If we start form 1980s we can say that major gas and oil companies decreased emphasizes on research and development process (R&D), research analyzed that there was decrease in spending in this area. Independent companies have spent very less on R&D (Andrews, 2003, 26).

The oil and gas industry at the turn of the century is facing unprecedented challenges that create the need to change the paradigm of technological development of oil and gas. Particularly great difficulties encountered in the petroleum industry. Neither oil-producing country is not solved in a relatively short period of time so fundamental and far-reaching problems. Our wealth: a huge number of large and giant fields with mild low-viscosity oil, hosted by the natural reservoirs with high-capacity reservoirs. For such deposits was created carefully established technology for reservoir pressure, making it possible to leave "until better times" are often very large deposits, but with parameters that do not allow to use this technology. And such times came, but they were not the best, especially for the implementation of expensive technologies in the global financial crisis. To guide production of high raw materials along with gas and condensate on the basis of the experimental work in the well developed special technology. New technologies of deep processing of high raw ...
