Executive Summary

The day of April 20, 2010, the British Petroleum's (BP) Macondo at Gulf of Mexico in well under the depth of water explosion was one of the largest accidental oil in the world (Freudenburg and Gramling, 2011). Around 11 Crew members who were drilling under the water were killed, near thousand of fishermen had badly affected for their livelihood and countless marine animals were destroyed and Mississippi, Florida and Louisiana beaches were polluted. At last on 15th July, 2010 blowout was finally under control but lawsuits have been filled near hundreds. Resources made assessment of the damage which is approx 4.4 million barrels oil were discharged (Freudenburg and Gramling, 2011).

It was clear that the federal state and the local private parties are going under the charge of the major oil spill, the federal government initially takes step towards it and tries to control over it immediately in the orderly fashion. Federal has the responsibility to offshore the spills on land and coast guard offshore incidents such as BP blowout. One of the authorized federal agencies the coast guard was assumed to control over the oil spill hazards and the designate parties were liable for the removal of clean-up coast. Supervisory control was assumed to response over the coast guard but the fact was that they were not consistently the perception of the media. The relationship between the government and the BP was not remains friendly and that were went of the presidents commission. The party which is held for the responsibility is goes for the liable on damages that subject to the civil and criminal penalties. At the core of Oil pollution Act (OPA) approaches to the oil spill containment known as National Contingency Plan (NCP) (Freudenburg and Gramling, 2011). The structure of this organization was established on regional, state and local components, whose responsibilities to integrate with federal agencies and local governments. The purpose for this is to make an effective and efficient response that run with unified command system.

Organization need to attain the media very legitimacy because the news has been transferred from one channel to other very quickly and in the form of different stories. The media is just play the role of nexus as the communication between the organization and the stakeholders that may be the cause of distraction between them and make damage the reputation of the organization. In such cases like the oil spills media play the pivotal role by providing timely information's about the significance event so their influence should not be overlooked in this case as well (Brunton, M 2011). Stakeholder was looked very energetic in the case of BP oil spill where issues related with case increase the awareness recipients. The media also sets the agenda through article such as oil covered birds in Gulf of Mexico; this information's directly hits the reputation of BP.
