All across the United States, it is a pretty common phenomenon that children receive non maternal child care during their earlier years of life. Back in 1999, almost ten million children aged below five in America received child care for more than 40 hours a week. Such a large number of children receiving care from nannies have put forward several questions regarding the effects that nannies have on the development of children. This issue has attracted the attention of parents and policy makers alike. Some studies have pointed out that there are beneficial effects of high quality child care on the social functioning of the child. They have also pointed out to other benefits such as academic achievement or cognitive-linguistic development. This is one side of the story. Some other researchers have indicated that there are many adverse effects of childcare on the children who are exposed to the influence of non maternal care in the early years of their life. These effects cause a negative impact on the socioemotional functioning of the child. This negative effect then goes on to affect the behavior of the child causing several behavioral problems.
