ABSTRACT

In this study we try to explore the concept of home healthcare in a holistic context. The main focus of the research is on the kind of impact and benefits that home healthcare provides to different individuals and its relation with the experience of elderly and aged people, who are experiencing home healthcare servicing. The research also analyzes many aspects of how does healthcare influence patient's health at home and tries to gauge its effect on their individual development and improvement in their disease or ailment experienced. Finally the research describes various factors which are responsible for advantageous and meritorious home healthcare services and tries to describe the overall effect on the health of the elderly.

CHAPTER 01: INTRODUCTION

Background of the Research

In recent years, policies to assist elderly people to age in place, within their communities have been at the forefront of national and international health policy considerations. In many countries, the elderly are given top priority and provided the best health care services available (World Health Organization, 2011). However, some elderly who have limited family support due to distance or social circumstances may experience emotional issues that may affect their quality of life (World Health Organization, 2011).

The lack of social and emotional support and feelings of loneliness, as well as isolation are factors that tend to reduce the quality of life of elderly people. The need for authentic support, such as effective geriatric care, to assist senior citizens cope with physical, emotional, and social difficulties in life is seen as important. (Strategy of the Ministry of Health Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, 2010)
