Ragtime - The sources of Jazz: Rhythms conveyed from a melodious heritage in Africa were integrated into Cakewalks, Coon Songs and the melodies of "Jig Bands" which finally developed into Ragtime, c.1895 (timeline). The first Ragtime composition was released by Ben Harney. The melodies, vitalized by the resisting tempos widespread to African promenade, was vibrant, passionate and often extemporaneous
