The Psychological Effects of Poverty on a Low Income Family

Why I Chose to Write on My Topic

My choice of topic is psychological effects of poverty on a low income family, because I believe that even though United States is one of the most advanced industrialized countries in the world, it has some of the highest child poverty rates in the industrialized world. Some children are poor because their parents are working, yet poor. Other poor children live with single mothers or recent immigrants. Children living in poverty experience increased strain on their physical, emotional, psychological, and social well-being. That said there are some industrialized nations that have reduced child poverty rates through a number of programs and policies.

I believe this is because the poor in wealthier countries like America is getting poorer, and the gap between the lowest- and highest-income families has widened. Average incomes for the poorest in United States, for example, have increased by about 18 percent over the past 10 years, while the wealthiest families experienced a 30 percent increase. Young couples with children experienced significant downward shifts, as their average wealth fell about 30 percent over the last decade. Inequality has worsened among families with children.

What the Research Says About My Topic

The criteria for this type of poverty depend little on the time and place of human habitation. Specific set of products consumed at the dawn of human society and modern man differs significantly, but you can clearly see, people starving or hungry. Therefore, the criteria of absolute poverty are related to biological characteristics.

2. Relative poverty is defined by reference to generally accepted, is considered "normal" by cultural life.

Average standard of living in the developed countries of the West is apparently higher than in developing countries. Therefore, what would be considered poor in the developed West, for backward states is regarded as a luxury. For example, in the category of relatively poor in the West and get the people who did not have any trouble with the food, but cannot afford to meet the needs of a higher level (education, cultural holiday, etc.). Therefore, the criteria of relative poverty based on social factors and vary greatly at different times and in different ...
