The Story of an Hour

Introduction

“The Story of an Hour" is a literary piece of writing by Kate Chopin, the American Author. It was published for the first time in Vogue magazine, in December 1894, entitled "The Dream of an Hour." For quite a number of years, it was published repeatedly in literature magazines and collections with the title "The Story of an Hour."

The characters of the story are Mrs. Louise Mallard (the main character); young and attractive women, Mr. Brently Mallard; her husband, Richards: Mt. Brently Mallard's friend, and Josephine; the sister of Mrs. Mallard.

"The Story of an Hour" is a short story that revolves around a young married woman; Mrs. Mallard, and her emotional response to the news of her husband's death who is assumed to have expired in a rail car crash. Her emotional reaction carries a lot of interesting swings that also takes her life away eventually.

“The story of an hour” is a saga of a young lady, in an oppressive relationship with her husband and, who wishes to break free. By virtue of an accident, she is provided with the chance, and the writer further describes the emotional response of that one hour where she thinks that she is finally free and having freedom. The writer has very tactfully used the words to draw and explain the environment in which the story has been setup.
