The Yacoubian Building is the bestseller novel in the Arab countries. This is a controversial novel. It reveals the political corruption, religious extremism, sexual repression, and modern hope of Egypt. It is the dense neighborhood novel. The writer of the novel is Alaa al Aswany. The building is elegant art deco block. This ten story building built in the year 1934 for an Armenian millionaire. There are interesting different characters in the novel, a gay, aristocratic playboy, a religious zealot, newspaper editor, childhood sweethearts all of whom exist in the similar apartment building. These characters create humor, emotions, sex, love, and marriage.

The novel consists of situations that relate to love, marriages, and sexuality. The characters are involved in sexual, love, and marriage relations. These relations are not normal as it is seemed to be in normal life. These characters have interesting stories that have made the novel special. In this mocking review of modern Egypt, it is hard to find a usable character. The character of both men and women is thieving and manipulative. The women are using their seductive power to ambush men. They make money out of it. The novel shows how these characters are a victim of their own uncivil society. The novel main character is Zaki Bey el Dessouki. He is sixty five year old men in the building who give sex advice to the young men of the building. He is wealthy foreign educated man. He is not true Islamic follower. He is attracted to women sexually no matter how much respected the women is, he believed that women is there for sex. He believed that he has the ability to sense the sexual hunger of women. He lived with his sister in the apartment.
