Unethical Issue

Myriad organizational practices fall under the arena of unethical and illegitimate practices. The researcher personally had a supervisor that ordered him to destroy files that were still within the Records Retention Guideline. These files should not have been destroyed. The files that were destroyed include the leave of absence, workers comp (this one included a file on the supervisor), vendor contracts files, employees on sick leave, and employees on Leave of absence. The ethical issue involved here is the scenario that the supervisor did not respect the rights or privacy of her employees. She also ordered the researcher to have keys made of all employees offices and files without their knowledge, and would snoop in their office and files, when the employees were out. The supervisor was very dishonest and spent her time harassing the employees, which made poor moral inclination and teamwork.

Discussion

Ethical Issues in Relation to the Issue Examination

The pivotal rights of the employees are in immense controversy in today's scenario of computers and information technology. The technology allows supervisors to monitor virtually all communication made by employees using computers including the use of Internet and email from the company. Although, employees may feel that such monitoring violates their rights to privacy, it is usually allowed by law (Mallor, Barnes, et al, 2010). Other activities of the employee (such as private conversations), and certain physical spaces in the workplace (like locked drawer of the desk) receive greater protection regarding privacy, although specific activities, such as drug use may require a test on substance abuse.

In this case, the issue of employee right in the workplace arises, because of the fact that the supervisor, in this case is a person that does not provide the employees their basic right of privacy, as she destroys the file of the employees, related to Leave of absence, workers comp - (this one included a file on the supervisor), vendor contracts files, Employees on sick leave, employees on Leave of Absence (Aliski, 2001). Furthermore, she wanted me to keep the keys for the drawers of every employee, along with other things, and would snoop into them, which is considered harassment. This is unethical. This is said because the office and drawers of the employee, she snoops into might also have some personal documents, data or material, which the supervisor has no right to access, without the knowledge of the employees.

In the cases that the degree of intrusion is minimal, the need for justification decreases and, conversely, highly intrusive mechanisms are very difficult legitimating.
