Portfolio 1 (One million UK workers have experienced violence in the workplace)

The Ethical Issue

The newspaper article clearly describes about the workplace violence being practice at various organizations in the United Kingdom. The article shows that the workers at the UK are discriminated ob various grounds which hinders their freedom and productivity. The workers in the sectors such as social work, education and public administration are more exposed to workplace violence. The reason could be the rigid organizational policies and rules.

Violence has been spreading steadily since the companies that handle high-value goods, such as banks and pharmacies, to organizations that perform public service activities or the citizen, such as urban transport systems and public services (fire, medical, teachers, nurses, social workers, community workers, waiters, etc.), which has become an emerging phenomenon in the global field of occupational hazards (Swanton 2003, pp. 15).

Workplace Violence can be defined as a form of negative behaviour or action, as between two or more persons, characterized by aggression, whether settled, either snapshot, which adversely affects the safety, health and workers welfare at the workplace.

Violence in the workplace at the United Kingdom has been linked to alcohol abuse, family history of violence, low self esteem, feelings of job insecurity and the perception of organizational factors and unfair management. Others have also been associated with the perception of overcrowding at work.

There are also some factors that may increase the likelihood of occurrence of violent acts at the United Kingdom that may be associated with social environment, the work itself and the personal characteristics of the offender.

The Stakeholders and Their Stakes

The resultant workplace violence in various organizations in the United Kingdom, affects several stakeholders and their interests. There are many internal and external stakeholders which are connected with the proper functioning of the organizations at all levels (Stocker, 1976, pp. 453). Workplace violence poorly hinders the interests and stakes of stakeholders and reduces the ethical credibility of the companies. Such stakeholders could be:

Communities where the company has operations: neighbourhood associations

The violence is often more common in companies in which reigns a very rigid organization (bureaucratic or authoritarian) or very flexible (unstable, precarious, unpredictable), an organization devoid of policies and regulations consistent with circuits and ineffective communication channels or deficit, with insufficient information content, ambiguous, late and with a style of authoritarian rule or where it can be arbitrary and preferential treatment or discriminatory treatment, unequal and humiliating, which devalues ??the worker, there is lack of participation in decision, where the demands are excessive, there is lack of recognition and support from managers and colleagues, where there are pressures to increase productivity, where the templates are inadequate (staff shortages, downsizing, layoffs) , where the conditions and the working environment is stressful and where there is overcrowding and long waiting times.
