Introduction

Spanish economy is progressing from the end of the Civil Spanish War in 1939. The economic development is prolonging the state to sustain its position among the most growing nations of the world. Tourism industry of Spain is a major contributor in the development along with the growing agricultural sector which is contributing towards elevating GDP. Apart for tourism agricultural and fishing sector also contributes to the national GDP of the country.

Benidorm is amongst one of the most popular tourist spots of Spain. In the early 1960's, this place was a small village which was superbly crafted after the industrial boom of tourism around Alicante. This metropolitan city is now amongst the most visited the spot by foreigners. Transformation of Benidorm from a sleepy village to a bustling tourist centre was very sudden and soon the town equipped her to initiate hosting thousands of vacationers and beach goers. According to tourist statistics, the population of Benidorm increases during the summer up to 1.5 million. Millions of tourists from different parts of Europe come to enjoy the exotic beauty of the place, particularly from Britain, Germany, Netherland and Belgium (Bertolin, 1996, pp.111)

Surrounding of the Mediterranean Coast differentiates Benidorm from other resorts, because it opens more avenues to explore nature and different culture. The city is synonymous with beaches and night life besides its modern look and feel. Mild weather is another signifying factor that is responsible for the growth of tourism in Benidorm. It is this vast array of Benidorm attractions, which make the town such a popular destination with tourists from all over the world.

History of Tourism in Benidorm

Benidorm is one of the great resorts of the Costa Blanca. Its sandy beaches, crystal clear waters and an excellent climate throughout the year have deserved fame to this town, equipped with infrastructure and quality services. Without doubt, one of Benidorm's main attractions are its beaches. A three-mile coastline, punctuated by long and wide sandy coves where you can enjoy a refreshing swim and to practice various sports: diving, water skiing, windsurfing, sailing. Located north of the port, the Levante beach is one of the most beautiful city. Its urban location, as well as provide it with numerous amenities and easy access to its more than two miles of golden sand. This emblematic sands are bordered by a busy promenade dotted with outdoor cafés and restaurants, offers a thrilling nightlife.

In early nineteen century, the tourist industry of Benidorm started prospering due to the natural beauty of beaches. The construction of the narrow gauge railway contributed a lot in attracting tourist from towns to the coast of Alicante. Benidorm's tourist industry evidenced a severe setback after the Civil Wars but, soon after 1950, this industry grew itself in all endeavors.
