CHAPTER NO 1: INTRODUCTION

In order to protect against Fungi, Viruses and bacteria Antimicrobial peptides uses their role as a host containing a large spectrum antimicrobial activity. Antimicrobial peptides have gain fame as a prospective of new source of healing agents effectual from microorganisms that develops confrontation to traditional drugs.

Antimicrobial peptides contains twelve to hundred acid residues, they are generally tiny polypeptides. These features are found in various including plants, vertebrates, plants, bacteria and invertebrates. Thus, it is a fact that polypeptides are varied in structure can be characterized by wide spectrum action viruses, bacteria and fungi.

The movement of spectrum is an exceptional for every single amino acid and peptide replacement can influence the activity. There is a positive net charge of nearly all antimicrobial peptides and are often cationic antimicrobial peptides. Tertiary structures are diverse of the peptides. Therefore, it includes common character is amphipathic.

Antimicrobial peptides are an important component of host systems, which is defined as a specific host defense system and insects in innate immunity, amphibians, mammals and plants. They are characterized by a broad range and they have a diverse structure, which help against bacteria, viruses, fungus and protozoa with the help of the disruption of membrane integrity. Resistance of emergence against antimicrobial peptides is considered less probable than observed for conventional antibiotics. Thses are attractive targets of antimicrobial peptides to develop new antimicrobial compounds.

These evolution maintained peptides are commonly electropositive and have both a hydrophobic and deliquescent side that changes the molecule to be soluble in aqueous environments yet also enter lipid-rich membranes. Once in a target microbial membrane, the peptide kills target cells through diverse mechanisms. Cathelicidins and defensins are major groups of epidermal AMPs. Diminished levels of these peptides have been noted for patients with atopic dermatitis and Kostmann's syndrome, a congenital neutropenia. In addition to important antimicrobial properties, growing evidence indicates that AMPs alter the host immune reaction through sensory receptor-dependent fundamental interaction. AMPs have been expressed to be significant ...
