In the case study, the lack of quality management control of the Portland Plant has been discussed. The organization was involved in the production of coated papers for ink-jet printers and the Hewlett Packard, the famous HP, was one of the major customers of the Portland Plant. In this case study, it has been told that the Portland Plant initially produced the less quality coated papers for ink-jet printers that were noticed by the Hewlett Packard. On the pointing out of the Hewlett Packard, the changes in the paper production formula were made in order to produce the paper according to the need and requirements of the Hewlett Packard. During the process of producing new quality paper, the Portland Plant incurred a great loss as the old and poor quality papers had to be disposed off and the new papers were needed to be to make to meet the demands of the customers. This phase was of great trouble for the Portland Plant because the organization had to bring changes in its production quality and tat the same time, the organization had to maintain the production level.

The case study reveals that in the striving of maintain the quality according to the Hewlett Packard and to produce the accurate level of productivity, the Portland Plant operation managers oversee the overall quality of the paper products. Secondly, the Hewlett Packard also announced to the Portland Plant, that if the Portland Plant manages the quality and the production levels efficiently, then Portland Plant will be given the Viper contract. According to the finance management department of the Portland Plant, the viper contract will be helpful in saving the future of the organization. As the Portland Plant was already losing its great amount of its financial resources on the production of quality papers, the authorities of the Portland Plant decided to strive for the acquisition of viper contract.
