Two effective characteristics and/or behaviors in the case study and explain why they were effective

Introduction

In order to have effective counseling characteristics and behavior the client and professional has to work in a collaborative way. This may not take place immediately because change in your actions maybe complex in the beginning. After reading the case study I believe the session was effective because the client and the counselor worked together with re-evaluating how the client was going to improve his circumstances. The counselor really began to understand where the client was coming from and relate without being judgmental. Those were effective counseling characteristics and behaviors.

Effective 1

It is very imperative that the client and counselor establish a trusting relationship among one another. I say this because everyone is comfortable and no one gets offended. The client knew that the counselor was effective by explaining what the problem really was and giving suggestions on how they can begin to repair things. The counselor was able to recognize whether there was any discomfort and/or any negative thoughts going on with the client. (Nelson 2002)

Effective 2

An effective counselor helps the client to survive any hopeless situation. The professional job is to help the client develop a positive outlook on life and their issues that they are involved in. The client in this week's case felt comfortable enough to open up about what may be causing the distress in his life. When clients begin to do such things as this the counselor is on the road to success with their client. Characteristics and behaviors are consistent with counseling as a science.
