Should the United Nations Be Given Stronger Peace Keeping Capabilities?

MAJOR RESEARCH QUESTION

Since its inception in 1945, the United Nations assumed responsibility for keeping international peace and security. The authors of the charter envisioned as an organization and extended its role of preventing crises and escalate to maintain stability as long as possible in areas filled with tensions.

The concepts of peace and peace-building exercise the diplomatic efforts and provide assistance to countries to build their national institutions. The Charter of the United Nations for people with military status are assigned to restore peace and security in areas where conflicts, but without the right to use force to accomplish this task.

If the United Nations and its Charter obligation to protect future generations from the dangers of war, it should re-consider the agenda of their own peacekeeping. It needs strong funding to support the new generation of peacekeeping operations, and to change the nature of the peacekeeping mission. In this research, our main research question would be the following:

What should be the extent of power and authority given to the United Nations in order to have Stronger Peace Keeping Capabilities?

IMPORTANCE

This study would be of importance to students of political science and international relations, as well as students of war studies in understanding the importance of UN as a peace-keeping body. The study would also be of use to academicians and teachers to refer to and enlighten their students. Finally, the research would help future researchers to delve upon the current research and improve upon it.

PROBLEMS AND HYPOTHESES

Despite the fact that UN developed to be a very strong peace-keeping body and more and more countries became signatories of the UN's peace keeping agenda which has been clearly mentioned in United Nations Charter, and the Preamble of UN states that the mission of the organization is to resolve international conflicts and prevent them and promote a culture of tolerance, peace and tranquility in the world. However, war still takes place and every now and then, the world see bloodshed and chaos in different parts of the world.

This poses serious questions for the peace keeping abilities of the UN, and makes people wonder whether the body should be given more capabilities to maintain its peace-keeping mission or not?

The purpose of the existence of UN was not merely to preserve peace in the world, but it also aimed at making radical changes without triggering any kind of upheaval. Nevertheless, war continues to take place and human rights are violated throughout the world. Most recently, the UN itself has released some reports regarding its confessions that it failed to maintain peace in Rwanda's genocide of Tutsi by the Hutu population and similarly, UN declared safety for Muslims in Srebrenica, however Serbs continued to kill Muslims mercilessly. In this regard, the main hypothesis of the study would be as follows:
