United States Social Policy Regarding Mental Health

Introduction

If we see to the history of Social policy regarding mental health of United States we can find its evolution after the Second World War. The cause behind the change, and augmented focus of United States government on the concern of mental health was the increased amount of patients who were reported with serious mental illness and chronic disease. The government of United States initiated a process of decentralization of health care services so that they can serve the people who are in problem regarding their mental health. It was observed that the targeted audience of this decentralization was seemed to be neglected during this whole process of decentralization of health care institute. This paper wills focus on the issues which the states faced after decentralization another thing which will be discussed if pro 1990 behavior of the society towards the mentally challenged people (Cooper, et. al, 2008).

The reason behind choosing this topic is to focus the work of U.S. government in respect of those people who are mentally ill or have psychological problems. As a part of the community and nation these people deserve to be treated with care and sympathy. No discrimination should be made on behalf of their mental health. As they are a part of society they should be given complete rights with respect to their medical treatment and care. If these people are not treated properly, in return this unfair treatment can create discrimination and it can also disturb the balance of the society (Spears, 2010).

Previous concept

Previously I was not aware of the after effects of ill treatment to the mentally challenged people. I always empathized with mentally challenged people for their being not if any benefit to the society. Through the study I came to know about people who were mentally ill previously and after fair treatment they become famous for their contribution towards the states and the nation.

Assumptions

There were few barriers which I faced during this research. One of them was the availability of most of the data on various ethnic groups which made it really hard for me to compile it to the national level. I have taken various ethnic samples and their behavior towards the policies of United States. This research focuses on the assumptions that the problem has almost same ratio across all the states.

Thesis Statement

The importance of policy formulation focuses on the mental health of the citizens of United States. The reason for adverse effects of weak policy making structure and unfair treatment towards the mentally retarded people.
