United States Policy Analysis

Answer # 1

In United States, the policies that are formulated are controlled by the federal government. The policies are endorsed in the executive branch but are a consequent of a collection of laws. There are different types of public policies that are formulated in the US and with regards to their subject matter. One of the public policies from the list of public policies that have been defined in the United States is the environmental policy (Randolph, 2003). In the United States, the environmental policy regulates all those activities that are related to the environment. The goals of the environmental policy include protection of the air of the country, water, land and the ecosystems. Therefore, the environmental policy ensures protection of oceans, land conservation and protection of national forests. A major challenge that USA is facing is changes in climate which have occurred because of pollution which also results in global warming. For this purpose, gas emissions from the greenhouse are monitored, and education is spread to create awareness among the people (CIA Factbook, 2011).

Political and Rational Nature of Environmental Policy

With regards to the environmental policy, political processes as well as the stakeholders are involved. Political nature of environmental policy refers to the interpretation of the problem that is political in nature. However, changes in the influence of some groups in the political arena can result in identification of solutions. When we look at the political nature, we also have to consider a budget that has to be allocated to protect the environment. However, the politicians cannot allocate exorbitant amounts to sustain the environmental policy because of many other critical areas. However, the rational nature of the policy says that steps should be taken to ensure a supportive environment. Although steps should be taken to improve the environment for people who live currently also for the future generations, there are certain costs that are involved with the environmental policy. This is because not everyone is aware of the negative consequences that have occurred because of factors such as global warming. Therefore, awareness should be created, and people should be educated about it (Harper & Leicht, 2011).

Identification of Stakeholders and their Opinions

The stakeholders of environmental policy are mentioned below.

1.General public - The general public believes that the environmental policy is essential not just for the current state but for the future too. With regards to the proposed policy solutions, they believe that proper implementation is not being done.

2.Government agencies - Although the government agencies want the benefit of the public, there are some agencies such as United States Forest Service that can become corrupt at times.

3.NGOs- They seek for public benefit; therefore, it is believed by the NGOs that care with regards to the environment should be taken to ensure public safety.
