ABSTRACT

E-learning has become a hot topic in recent years due to its ability to provide additional knowledge at arm's length in comparison to the traditional methods. The study context revolves around the e-learning environment itself. As e-learning has expanded, the technology supporting this valuable new educational tool has also expanded. This learning process involves using technology to communicate with learners in different places by satellite, telephone, computer, television, and other ways where learning can take place at the same time but at different locations. The learning opportunities are enormous. E-Learning is changing the learning landscape. Its blend of technologies, interactivity and just-in-time delivery means big savings. E-Learning is now part of how we do things and it provides learning options on an as-needed-basis. Many universities, governments and non-profit organizations have started to follow the pathway led by corporations in reaping the benefits of e-Learning with its ability to successfully connect learners and the subject matter experts from around the world. The need for less expensive and effective ways to deliver knowledge has led to explore the option of e-learning. The convenience that e-learning offers to the users such as being able to take courses at their own pace, at their own place and the engaging nature of the multimedia delivery has been drawing better participation. E-learning technologies have become an integral part of instruction at all levels of higher education in the UAE as well. While some service-learning faculty members have enthusiastically accepted e-learning technologies, many have resisted the trend. This sporadic use of e-learning technologies in the educational setting of service-learning has not been addressed in prior research particularly focusing on the UAE region. Specifically, the research on the utilization of real time technology for e-learning application in the UAE is nonexistent. Therefore this research aims primarily to focus on the utilization of real time technology for e-learning application. The research also aims at studying the extent at which the UAE has been able to adopt the concept of e-learning. Not only this, this dissertation will also explore the positive impact of the combination of real time technology and e-learning on educational field in the UAE.
