Visit to Correctional Facility and Supervisor Interview

As a part of my project I planned to visit The Georgia Department of Corrections that aims at protecting its citizens and population from different types of offenders by offering opportunities for behavioral improvement and give them a second chance to live a normal life. It is vision of its management to promote safety and health of its population by offering them facilities for education and growth and make Georgia one of the best managed states. They aim to achieve the above mentioned objective through public safety, effective supervision and restoration facility for offenders, providing victims with sufficient rights through partnering with other public and private organization and maintaining basic values of duty, respect, honor and loyalty etc. this facility consisted of around 4 dormitories and around 57 beds in each of the four dormitories. Additionally it had around 4 single cells that were apparently used for those inmates who were dangerous or may cause harm to others and must be kept in these separate cells. Additionally they were also given the opportunity to undertake vocational trainings or courses such as food preparation, baking, cooking, laundry, building, barbering etc. it has around 13000 employees at the moment out of which majority that is around 12000 work in occupations that are related to direct supervision of the inmates of correctional facility while the rest work in administration and operations department (Georgia Department of Corrections).

Some of the important skills that may be seen in the potential candidate is good decision making and judgment skills, effective negotiation and communication, self discipline and other social and interpersonal skills as the duty involves looking after and dealing with different types of inmates and supervision and monitoring of other low level staff. Additionally he must be drug free, 18 plus in terms of age and strong in terms of his physical built and health. The test and hiring procedure was tough but neutral so it was easier for the deserving candidate to get selected. Competition was not that tough as there were few candidates who applied for the ...
