Walmart Stores operates retail stores in a range of formats. The operations of the Walmart Stores comprises of three business segments that include Walmart U.S. which operates retail stores in different formats in the U.S. under the Wal-Mart brand, as well as online retail operations of Walmart that is walmart.com; international which consists of retail operations in 14 countries. It comprises of retail stores and restaurants including discount stores, supercenters and Sam's Clubs which consist of membership warehouse clubs in the United States and the online retail operations segment. As of January 31, 2011, Walmart Stores had a total of 4,413 domestic stores and 4,557 international stores.

Human Recourse Decision-Making

Human resource decisions are very important to the company. There are different types of information needed in order to make informed decisions. These types of information are described in the succeeding paragraphs.

The first type of information is that human resource or human capital as it is widely called in today's world, is the most important assets of any organization. The growth and success of any organization depends upon its human resource. How a company manages it, human resource determines its future success.

The second type of information is that it is next to impossible for companies like Walmart Stores to achieve its set goals without valuing its quality human resources. A highly motivated workforce can increase the productivity of the business as motivation has a direct impact on the performance of employees. In this paper, the study is specifically looking at the HRM strategies focusing on, training, compensation and benefits, organizational diversity and training.

Recruitment and Selection

After analyzing the organizations recruitment and selection process, I would recommend that it is the prime responsibility of HR personnel to recruit right person at right position, as hiring inappropriate candidate for the job might result as poor performance and productivity.

Once the potential staff is hired there is a need to retain it, as the cost recruitment process involves is high as well as if an organization losses a potential employee, than business might have to suffer from loss. Retention of potential employees is necessary in the current environment as to not only keep organization on the track for success but to beat the competitors (Batt, 2005). In this regard, motivation plays an important role. Different organizations adopt various methods to retain its employees, but most effective and practiced method is employee training, which not only provide the chances for employees to grow within the organization but also this process benefits employees as trained employees can boost the level of productivity. Walmart Stores has been adopted as model organization, and in this study the HR practices followed by Walmart would be analyzed, as to observe the importance of human capital in the growth of Walmart, as it is the giant of supermarkets. Human resource policies and practices at Walmart Stores would be reviewed and discussed to understand, how much importance has been given to human resource by Walmart.
