Ways of Dying and So Long a Letter

Ways of Dying

Ways to Die covers only a few days from Christmas to New Year, but marks a significant change in the central character's life, Toloki. Meet and winds up moving in with a childhood friend of his hometown, Noria, as both agree with much of the past and find in them a person who may be able to complete their lives (Uzoamaka, 22).

Analysis

The world we live in South Africa has just started post-apartheid transition, is far from idyllic. As Toloki says:

"Death lives with us every day. In fact, our ways of dying are our ways of life. Or rather, our ways of life are our ways of dying?"

With the death omnipresent Toloki has chosen to deal with him head on: it has become a professional mourner, the first of its kind. He already has something of a reputation, and hires people to come to the funerals of their relatives. In her neat black suit that makes a big impression. Like other standard features of the funeral - the nurse, who describes the death of the deceased - Toloki think it's something. As yet, accept what people are willing to give, but eventually hopes to set fixed fees for providing this professional service (Encyclopedia of African Literature, 33).

Ways to Die was a great array of insults and narrative voices. kindly notes my sister were brought to my attention, and found it very enjoyable. Most of the story was told by us, the community, a bossy, all-knowing audience on the shoulders disdainfully insisted that he did not believe what so and so said, or we all think as it was a scandal. The people and events were described so cleverly that half of the book he was still just get a sense of character that have emerged from page three.

Half the book is where my problem began. notes from my sister was reduced to a few scribbles and underlines, my attention wandered, and went back to reading What happened instead. What happened in the second half of the book, stripped of its analysis and disappeared from the novelty of the first hundred pages, did not stop. Most of the questions I had been asking the first half of the book - as he did die young, how it was born, what happened to the father of this man? - Ended up being answered with surreal mystical or sly ambiguity, which were far from what had been expecting.

This is probably a book review I have rather mixed lately. When I was very excited with what I was reading what I was reading, I was thrilled highest regard. While I was disappointed with the story I said, I was deeply disappointed. First I was delirious, and now I'm not complaining. I have no real idea of whether I liked the second half of the book if it was ...
