Introduction

The topic “We are products of our society” is discussed widely and still leads to several arguments and conflicts. It is important to view the framework of many people in order to build a strong perspective regarding the issue. It is very fascinating to think several processes that take place in order for any individual to become an active and functioning socialized participant of the society (Machan, pp. 49). Various studies provide a several frameworks that provide suffice information and contribute a lot in understanding the socialized identity of every individual. It is a general perspective that when a child is born, he/she is strongly influenced by several agents of socialization in the first 5 years. These agents might include parents, uncles, aunts, grandparents and educational institutions etc, as children tend to interact with these agents the most in early age.

Discussion

Mead argues that an individual himself, along with his mind is a social emergent. According to him individual selves are results of social interaction and biological and logical preconditions do not play an essential role in the development (Fararo, pp, 30). He also refers to self as something which develops during life through different social activates and experiences and is not present at the time of birth. His model of society is more of an organic model according to which individuals themselves are related to the social processes whereas there bodily parts are related to their bodies. Therefore it is quite certain to say that the self refers to a reflective process.

It is quite certain to say that the factor of temporality overshadows human existence. It is not impossible to construct an account on the loss of freedom and the reality of the degree of freedom available to humans. If we ground our analysis of humanity and its consciousness in context of social processes of communication, it will help us in establishing our self understanding. It can be said without any hesitation, that human world is not permanent. Therefore it can be said that past is the part of the experience in present and even the coming future is the part of the experience in present.

It is important to understand that the term “self” is referred to as “I” in activities for example how an individual is socially active in the society is through his choices and their awareness. Individuals experience themselves being presented confronted with several situations that require them to choose on their part. They do not necessarily experience themselves as being monitored or controlled by the world. There are presented with obstacles by the world and yet they experience themselves, as having the ability to respond to those obstacles in many different ways.

An individual loses freedom or selfhood, when he/she is unaware of his/her choices or when he/she refuses that fact that he/she has choices (Carreira da Silva, pp. 177).
