ABSTRACT

In this research, we tried to explore the role of historical museums in promotion and preservation of history and historical figures and educating teachers about the same. The main focus of the research is on the biography of Molly Brown and the workshops conducted by Molly Brown House Museums in educating teachers about the biographies of Western Women and what role museums play in preservation of cultural heritage. Finally, the research also finds out about the lives of historical female personalities in America and the difference between life and legend.TABLE OF CONTENTS

The role that museums and other cultural institutions can play in the promoting education, history and cultural heritage in the society is more crucial than a common mind believes. Museums have the power to inspire and encourage the study and creativity. According to UNESCO Convention 2003 for the Safeguard of Intangible Cultural Heritage, museums are very important for the preservation of living heritage at the degree of local communities as well as the protection of the visibility of living forms of cultural heritage.

Museums are non-profit and permanent institutions, they render a considerable service to the society by contributing toward the development of the society and being open to the general public to benefit from, and also maintain, researches, demonstrates and communicates in terms of studies, recreation, and education, and present a material evidence for the masses and their environment (Robert 1997, 88-89).
