Introduction

Small colleges and universities are better than bigger colleges. The reasons for this are threefold. Small colleges tend to have higher standards for acceptance into their programs. Along with this, these colleges have a higher standard of conduct than most public colleges. Generally, class dimensions are substantially smaller at private colleges. Private colleges are tend to focus on less areas. This allows specialization that makes a higher caliber of graduate in those fields. Because they are not mandated to serve the interests of the general public, private colleges can require students searching acceptance to be stronger academically, in extra-curricular activities, and social activities. This amounts to skimming the cream off of the top of each year's high school graduates (Thomas, pp: 21).

Discussion

Acollege's size often sways the size of its classes. In general, larger schools tend to have larger classes, particularly at the freshman level. We may find yourself taking notes along with a hundred other students in your Introduction to Psychology class. If you favor being somewhat anonymous in class, large lecture courses are the way to go (Woods, pp: 121).

At smaller colleges, you may find less lecture techniques and more techniques that focus class participation. These types of categories facilitate nearer communicate with school and other scholars, which is attractive to some students but not all.

Of course, smaller colleges may still have some large classes, and large universities may offer a variety of small classes (especially in upper-level courses).
