Introduction

Voice over IP (VoIP) can provide substantial savings on your telephone service by allowing to use an IP network to make phone calls instead of the traditional telephone companies' public switched telephone network (PSTN). Many organizations today run IP networks over wireless technology, and it's possible to run VoIP applications over Wi-Fi, too.

This study tried to aware about a number of issues when planning a VoIP over wireless (often called VoW, VoFi, or wVoIP) deployment.

Rationale

With the advent of WiMAX for longer range Wi-Fi communications, wireless phone companies (cellular carriers) are gearing up to offer hybrid phones that will use VoIP over Wi-Fi when a Wi-Fi network is available and switch to cellular when one is not. So VoIP over wireless encompasses different things, depending on the context.

Aim

The aim of the research is to design, build and evaluate an interactive system for the advancement of the to use VoIP and unified communications via Wi-Fi on handset as VoIP WiFi effectively reduces bandwidth consumption caused by voice traffic.

Methodology

Qualitative research will be used for proposed study. Qualitative research is more subjective as compared to quantitative research and uses very different methods of collecting information which could be both primary and secondary. As already mentioned this study will choose the secondary method. The theme of this type of research will be investigative along with open-ended.

Research design

The research will be based on secondary data collection. The data will be extracted from various journals, articles and books. In secondary research data will be extracted from various journals, books and articles.

Literature Search

The criteria of selection for the literature will be relevance to the research topic and the year of publication. Both public and private libraries as well as online libraries will be visited to access the data. Some of the online databases that will be accessed are ebsco, questia, emerald, phoenix and so on.

Research review

The idea began in the early 1990s with walkie-talkie-like voice applications for personal computers(Erlanger, 2006).In recent years many VoIP systems have become as easy to use and as convenient as a normal telephone(Buckler, 2007). The benefit is that, as the Internet carries the voice traffic, VoIP can be free or cost much less than a traditional telephone call, especially over long distances and especially for those with always-on Internet connections such as cable or ADSL(Farber, 1999). VoIP is maturing into a competitive alternative to traditional telephone service(Comer, 2006). Interoperability between different providers has improved and the ability to call or receive a call from a traditional telephone is available(Carvin, 2000). Simple, inexpensive VoIP network adapters are available that eliminate the need for a personal computer(Rehmeyer, 2008).

Discussion and evaluation off the system

Internet telephony is another common communications service made possible by the creation of the Internet. VoIP stands for Voice-over-Internet Protocol, referring to the protocol that underlies all Internet communication. Remaining problems for VoIP include emergency telephone number dialling and reliability. Currently, a few VoIP providers provide an emergency service, but it is ...
