Wittgenstein's language game

Wittgenstein makes an analogy between the signification of words and the function of tools. Just as we say that all words in a language signify something, we say that all tools change something. A hammer changes the position of a nail, for example. Then we must ask what the position of the nail changes, and the answer is that it makes the box more solid. Wittgenstein seems to think that this process is not helpful in our understanding of the function of tools.
