Women Should Stay At Home to Raise Children Instead Of Going out to Work

Introduction

The society has its own way of looking at things. Women in societies world over are considered the primary caregivers for children. This is true not only in developing countries but also in developed nations such as the United States of America and the United Kingdom which have created the concept of Mommy tax. No wonder a women is love, care and devotion personified. She is a diamond and is a true reflection of God. This must be understood from the fact that Muslims say that the Creator loves his people as much as seventy mothers (Mujeres, 2006, p. 457). Hence, the love of a mother for her children is natural and unconditional. However, when it comes to the responsibilities of a woman as a mother, there have long been debates on whether women should stay at home to raise children or they should be allowed to put their talents to use and work outside of home. The article presents the arguments on both the sides in context of their own welfare and the welfare of their kids.

Discussion

The proponents of the idea that women should stay at home have very strong arguments. They believe that when a woman steps out of the house she creates many problems not only for herself but also for her family. When a woman steps out of the house she is compromising on the quality of time that she should be spending at home with her children. A mother is the first institution. She is the person the future generation is dependent on. She should stay at home and wholly and solely look after her children. She should be a strong role model for her children (Peters, 2008, p. 17). If she stays out of children, the bond between the kids and the mother will not be as strong and children will miss out on the requirements of a parent who is there for them all the time.

The opponents of the idea argue that children are not the responsibility of women alone. The father should be as responsible for the upbringing of the children as the mother. In fact, they should both share the responsibility of raising children. If one of them is not present, it will not make an ideal balanced family. The mother cannot make up for the absence of the father. There is a reason why nature created two parents for children and not one (Helen, 2010, p. 11).

Those who believe that women should stay at home hold there is a difference between children of yester years and children of today. Numerous problems with teenagers such as binge drinking, teenage pregnancies, HIV AIDs and high school dropout rates are the result of changes in the dynamics of the society (Watson, 2006, p. 7).
