Introduction

For millennia, women have left their mark on the world; they have played a major role in changing the course of the history, and at the same time they have influenced some of the most significant spheres of life. Throughout the history women have made some undeniable contributions, women have been pioneers in the fields of business, athletics, arts, engineering, science and many more. It has only been in the past few years that some efforts have been made for recognizing the contributions of women. Consequently, changes that are taking place in the status of the women in last few years in which the women have gained the right to vote, own property, and choose their own carriers, all these factors may obscure the accomplishments which have been made by women throughout the history.

Today's woman has managed to be heard, give and contribute ideas for women from their environment, gradually gaining a place where for many years they had fought. Some fought for gender equality; they wanted to be heard like the man and had never had reason to fear acts which even lead to the death for their ideals. Poet Sappho, whom Homer called the Tenth Muse who was born on the island of Lesbia, originating the word lesbian, with which today is called homosexual women, hence, perhaps based his anger against some writers who wanted discredit, because homosexuality was considered unnatural (Barlow, 1999). Here we note that since ancient times the woman was ridiculed by some personal characteristic not to make it part of the society, rather than only entitled to man (Pierpont, 2000).

Discussion

Where are women in the field of science? This is one of the most asked questions today, especially with regards to the presence of women in the form of tenured professors, in some of the most elite universities of the world. History tells us that women have never made any significant contribution in the field of science. It has always been seen that women have always been innately ill equipped for the high level of science careers, women who have pursued some of the most demanding careers in the field of science has often jeopardize their own, and their families well being. However, new evidence suggests that the chances of success for women in the field of science depend on the overall structure of the organization in which they are working. The women scientists, especially the ones that have worked outside the hierarchical world of academies, and large scientific establishments are more likely to hold the position of high level leaderships.

Ironically, throughout the history the women have watched the live and the rights of their brothers, husbands, and sons expand, and during this period the live of the women contracted.
