Introduction

There was a time when all the problems faced by society were adhered to women. Teenage hooliganism, Alcoholism and even wars were associated to women role in society. It was considered that all such problems occurred because women did not play the role of mother and housewives effectively. The society asserted that the dream of every woman is to get married and take care of homes, cleaning, kitchen, and taking care of children. It was considered that all women wanted were washing machines, refrigerators and advertisement of such products labeled them as every woman's dream (Bowman, 2007). In 1950s, suburbs developed and families left large cities to move into suburb areas. The man would drive the family into the new house and will go along happily and bake cakes and apple pies for her family.

Discussion

Women were separated from most social activities and mostly get to go out to buy kitchen ware. However, with the modernization of society many women begin to perceive life as more than motherhood, serving husbands and washing dishes. Women thought that the contributions they made during wars have been forgotten, and they have been pushed back into their homes. Raising a family and Housekeeping were two major roles of women in 1950; however, these roles have gotten less rigid than in past decades (Bowman, 2007). Women were becoming housewives and mothers at faster rates with higher rates of marriages and births. At the same, rate of women entering, workplace was also increasing. During the time of World War 2, millions of women entered the job market in order to fulfill the manpower shortage in domestic labor market.
