Comparative Analysis & Discussion

In general, when one thinks of the Second World War, we remember the kind of movie Saving Private Ryan, The Longest Day, Pearl Harbor and films that deal with this conflict, the bloodiest in the history of mankind, very fragmented and unilateral. In passing, we forget that the imperialists did not hesitate to massacre civilians to terrorize the enemy. The Anglo-American bombing German civilians, the German imperialists retaliated with their V-1 and V-2 on London and massacred civilians Soviet Japanese imperialists massacred Chinese civilians and American imperialists deliberately killed civilians Japanese Nagasaki and Hiroshima (Not including conventional bombings that preceded) (Shiffman, 2007). The pages of history will recall that the USSR has contributed to the defence of freedom, democracy, human rights and that its people have paid the price heavily.

The first day of the war was a tragedy: the suddenness of the invasion of fascist hordes at dawn on Sunday, the massive attacks of enemy aircraft on sleeping cities and airfields. Approximately 1150 aircraft were destroyed before they could take off (Timmermann, 2007). During the summer and autumn of 1941, Soviet troops waged fierce defensive battles, exhausting the enemy. During the first 20 days of the war, the fascist army lost more soldiers and officers that during all campaigns in Western ...
