Introduction

To determine if a student has learning disabilities, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) has been introduced which no longer requires school districts to take into consideration whether there is a discrepancy between achievement and student's intellectual capacity. In accordance with state criteria to determine learning disabilities, school districts can now use the results of the student's response to an intervention, and based on scientific research as part of the evaluation.
