“A study in Scarlet” is written by the author Conan Doyle, who first introduces the character of iconic consulting detective Sherlock Homes and his faithful companion Doctor Watson. Canon Doyle is a Scottish author and a physician; he introduces Sherlock Holmes character to the world in 1887. Sherlock Holmes is an extra-ordinary London based consulting detective, who is famous for his intellectual and reasoning powers. According to Canon Doyle, he has pictures this character based on his friend and mentor, Doctor Joseph Bell, who is very much interested in crimes and had assisted cops for solving some cases. Like Sherlock Holmes, Bell draws large conclusions from small observations (Britton, 2008, n.d).
Recently, BBC1 has debuted a new series of Sherlock Homes by the name of “A Study in Pink”, by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss. In this new version Moffat and Gatiss has shown modern Sherlock Holmes, who lives in a modern technology oriented world like cell phone, automobiles, and others. According to Moffat, the main thing about Sherlock Holmes is not its surrounding or anything else, rather it is about Sherlock Holmes adventures, and that's what really matters (Gibson, 2012, n.d).

In 'A Study in Scarlet' Sherlock Holmes's character was invented as a brilliant but unusual detective, who was regarded as a perfect hero for his age. He was depicted as a reasoning machine who believed in science and he seemed an ideal fit for a modern era. In English detective literature, Sherlock Holmes is one of the most intriguing and compelling characters and Doctor Watson is an excellent companion for him. The methods of analyzing and solving murder mysteries were revolutionary at the time of novel's publication, and they are still impressive if read today (Britton, 2008, n.d).
In the novel Sherlock Holmes is presented as a talented violin player and at the same time chemist, and he is well versed in sensation literature as well. His ability to observe and reasoning led him to success in solving crimes. In novel he seems moody sometime and sometime depressed and he is also very solitary.
