Introduction

Problem Statement

From the perspective of organization, motivation is an important concern to retain employees. Among employees, lack of motivation supports efficiency that results in negative productivity of employees. In an organization, there can be various factors that can de-motivate employees such as poor management or leadership, environment of working, culture of organization, peer behavior and relation, and poor appraisal and compensation system. When employees lack 'motivation' they lead the organization towards negative productivity. Lack of motivation among employees results in lack of efficiency and negative productivity, which consequently results in ineffective performance of an individual as well as of the organization as a whole. So, the problem that this research study will be addressing is the negative impact of lack of motivation among employees on their performance. Though there are several factors that can be associated with low level of employee's motivation, research suggests that some apparent and significant factors are poor and inappropriate leadership, poor or unhealthy relationship between employees and their managers or supervisors, working conditions, and in-effective compensation and benefits system in an organization.

Research Aims and Objectives

The main aim of this research is to highlight and explain the negative impact of lack of motivation on performance of employees. The major objectives of this research include:

To identify and explain the factors that has an influence on motivation of employees

To have a complete understanding of relation between employee performance and employee motivation

To understand the significance of employee motivation

How the culture of an organization supports its employees in staying motivated?

What are the best ways of recognizing the sufficient and appropriate job performance of employees?

How employees are associated with an organization?

What makes employees feel satisfied with their job role?

How employees contribute in the organizational objectives? What motivates employees to add up in the objectives of organization?

What are the approaches used by an organization to retain its employees? What makes employees stay in an organization for long?

Literature Review

Overview of Motivation in an Organization

Motivation is a type of driving force that controls the productivity of employees. In addition to this, motivation provides a channel to employees for their sustained productivity. As such, motivation is channeled into momentum. It leads to the development of a work climate that allows employees to personally strive to achieve their individual and collective best and to be able to see the impact of their work. This becomes a tool by which employees maintain momentum through ongoing self-motivation (Yurtseven, 2012).

Motivation is different for different organizational settings; motivation is unique to the individual and the situation. Employees who see themselves as part of a group and are able to identify their contributions to the group are typically motivated to repeat their previous behaviors that led to success.
