Electronic Trainer Shoes

Introduction

The innovative product that I have come up with is digitally enhanced shoes that tell the wearer how much calories he has burnt after running. The department of health in the UK is concerned about the increase in the level of obesity in the country. This has serious implications for the country in the future. This may be understood from the estimate stated in the Foresight report as commissioned by the government that by 2050, if no action is taken to resolve the problem, 50% of women, 60% of men and about one fourth of the children population will be obese (Department of Health, 2011). Moreover, there is a need to create awareness among the general population about the need to remain smart and healthy as obesity comes with numerous health related issues. Hence, I have decided to come up with an innovative shoe that will help in addressing the issue and meet the exercise needs of a larger segment of the UK population.

About the organization

Adidas is a world famous company in sports apparel and shoes that has its origin in Germany with headquarters at Herzogenaurach, Germany. The Adidas group also has Reebok under its umbrella. It is the largest manufacturer of sportswear in the UK and the second largest in the world. It faces neck to neck competition with Nike. Adidas started back in the year 1924, when the two German brothers Adolf "Adi" Dassler and Rudolf "Rudi" Dassler started the business in their loving mother's laundry where they produced shoes. Today, Adidas has expanded an immense deal and produces products for football, running, tennis, basketball, gymnastics, baseball, cricket, Lacrosse, skateboarding, rugby and sports accessories.

To prove the vitality of the new product idea, Adidas will perform a broad idea analysis and deployed an idea management system.

The need for innovation

Before innovation, Adidas first began with addressing the question as to why they need innovation. The major driver for Adidas's innovation is Differentiation and Relevance and agility. As mentioned earlier, Adidas faces cut throat competition with Nike. To retain its market leadership in the UK market, the company has to innovate on a continual basis in order to meet and even exceed the expectations of its customers (Palmer 2010, p. 197). Coming up with an innovative product that serves the need for innovation is the best strategy for the time. The product is not only innovative but will generate greater revenue for Adidas. The major reason for this is the fact that the new electronic shoe caters to the needs of a larger market ...
